macOS · Codex Dream Skin
Install on macOS
Works on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. No global Node.js required — the engine uses Codex’s own signed bundled Node after validating its signature.
Before you start
- Official Codex Desktop installed and launched at least once (so ~/.codex/config.toml exists)
- A wide image you like (≥ 2000px width recommended, ≤ 50 MB, PNG / JPEG / HEIC / WebP)
Download the engine
Get the latest source as a ZIP, or clone with git:
git clone https://github.com/Fei-Away/Codex-Dream-Skin.git
cd Codex-Dream-Skin/macos Run the installer
In Finder, double-click “Install Codex Dream Skin.command”. It installs the engine to ~/.codex/codex-dream-skin-studio and creates Desktop launchers. From a terminal you can instead run:
./scripts/install-dream-skin-macos.sh --no-launch Pick your image
Double-click “Customize Codex Dream Skin.command” (or run the script below) and choose an image in the Finder picker. The engine builds banner, background, and frosted layers from it.
~/.codex/codex-dream-skin-studio/scripts/customize-theme-macos.sh Start themed Codex
Use the “Codex Dream Skin.command” Desktop launcher to start or re-apply. Optional: install the SwiftBar menu-bar item to apply / pause / change image from the 🎨 icon.
Restore anytime
Double-click “Restore Codex Dream Skin.command” to go back to the stock look. Nothing in the official install directory is modified, so restore is instant and clean.
Image tips
- Keep the left side of the image relatively calm — native home titles render there.
- The image becomes banner + background only; the UI is never a fake overlay.
- Verify anytime with “Verify Codex Dream Skin.command”.
